SubMate is born during
Paris Startup Weekend in december 2009. The idea is that everyday millions of people do the same trips in public transportation. By those trips we can define where they spend most of their time (home, work, university,...) and provide them the opportunity to meet new people who share common interests and discover things to do in their areas.
Instead of check-in,
à la Foursquare, we prefer to define implicit areas from the daily commute the users provide and deliver them instant value. Most of the people spend lot of time around where they work, study and of course live but in urban areas it's frequent that you don't know a lot of people or what is happening there.
Only 4 months old, SubMate has already been featured in numerous conferences around Europe :
finalist at Plugg 2010 (Brussels, Belgium),
semi-finalist at Innovate 100 (Paris,France) and
finalist at The Next Web (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
We decided to use the tremendous opportunity that is The Next Web to open SubMate's public beta. For the moment, SubMate is available for New York, London, Paris, and will deploy to 15 more cities before the summer.
Submate is both a website, an iPhone app (currently pending for Apple review) and we are currently developing an Android version of the app (will be available during the summer).
SubMate is based in Paris and is currently looking for seed funding.
